THE NIGEL PATTERSON TRIO:
The Nigel Patterson Trio was formed in 2007 out of a love for the piano trio format and a vision for composing and performing original jazz inspired compositions. Led by Nigel Patterson, one of New Zealand’s finest keyboardists/composers (The Black Seeds, Fly My Pretties) with support from Tim Jaray on Double-Bass and Peter Elliot on Drums the trio combines expert musicianship with passion and creativity.
Inspired by such greats as Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellingotn, Mal Waldron, McCoy Tyner and many others The NP Trio creates a contemporary, sophisticated and digestable take on the jazz idiom. From alternative metres through mood ballads and uptempo swings the NP Trio seeks to bring through the edgier side of jazz whilst retaining the melodic and emotional character of the music.
